We had to have our luggage outside our door by 7AM this morning, but had plenty of time to go eat breakfast downstairs. After that we waited for the bus to take us back to the to the train depot so we could catch the train to Whittier to board the ship. The noise and confusion in the lobby for boarding the buses was awful. At one point I yelled out that we couldn't hear what was being announced only to be waved off by the staff. funny thing is, about 5 minutes later they came through the crowd looking specifically for me and my wife, as we were the only ones that had not boarded our bus. I reminded them that I had yelled that I couldn't hear, but that they blew me off. They weren't happy. too bad.
We made it to the bus and train. The train car was much older than the day before, but adequate for the 3 hour trip to Whittier. Most folks were checked-in for the cruise while on the train, and given all their documents right there. Something was wrong with ours, so we were escorted to the solutions desk for check-in which took care of the issue, whatever it was, right away, and we finally got onboard around 4:30PM. Sail away was not until 7PM.
We went to check-in at the muster station, and then noticed that we were given early dining instead of the late dining we asked for. So, we went to the dining room and were able to make the switch. Once back to our cabin, our luggage was waiting for us, so we got unpacked and then ready for 7PM dinner.
The dining room is quite nice and the food was very good. However, the dining room was at least half-empty the entire cruise. I don't know if there were that many people eating in the specialty restaurants or at the buffet, or what they might have been doing. But they missed out as the food was very good.
We didn't bother going to the show as we didn't finish dinner until it was about to start, and we were tired anyway.
First full day of cruise was a sea day, with scenic cruising of Hubbard Glacier. It was a dreary, rainy day, so we stayed inside. Pictures suffered as a result.
Here is the towel animal that was in our cabin this evening.
